Eye Anatomy Illustrations

Anatomy, the word originally from the Greek language meaning anatomia, and temnein, to cut up, cut open, is a branch of biology and medicine that studies the structure, purpose and pathology of all living things.

Here we are studying the anatomy of the eye through eye illustrations created by Joanna & team. A medical artist such as Joanna, has been trained to interpret and illustrate the science that deals with the form and structure of organic bodies; anatomical structure or organization of such parts as the eye. The illustrations take on a realism style as their aim is to correctly and accurately record the information through an art form, revealing a true representation of the subject.

In this gallery are a collection of eye illustrations, showing the anatomy of the eye and also the surounding anatomy. The illustrations have been commissioned in order that medical data can be shown in a visually engaging manner.

The eye itself is an amazing stucture. Light comes in through the cornea and the amount of light coming in is controlled by the pupil. The pupil can enlarge and contract according to the amount of light. The light focuses on the retina, a series of light-sensitive cells lining the back of the eye. The retina reacts to the incoming light and sends the information via the optic nerve direct into the brain. The brain interprets the information and we see the world in colour and in amazing detail.
