Exercise & Sport Anatomical Illustrations
These illustrations have been created to demonstrate how strength training exercises work on specific muscle groups. The purpose of strength training is to use body building gym equipment to create resistance to muscular contraction to build the strength, anaerobic endurance, and size of skeletal muscles.
Strength training builds functional benefits as well as improvement in overall health and well-being. Free weights usually work a group of muscles at the same time; weight machines typically are designed to isolate and work specific muscle. Using this type of equipment improves appearance as well as regular activity increasing bone, muscle, tendon and ligament strength. With this comes improved joint function and therefore reduced potential for injury. Other benefits are increased bone density, a temporary increase in metabolism, improved cardiac function, and elevated HDL or good cholesterol.
We are currently working on a project for the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the Antomy of an Athlete Exhibition. Read more about this on our medical illustrators news page.
