Choosing pastel for medical illustration and patient information is a good choice. Here are its qualities as a medium.

Pastel is a pure powdered pigment ground into a paste with a minumum amount of gum binder, rolled into sticks and dried. These pastel sticks provide an infinite variety of colours and their vibrancy can create lovely soft tones and shades making the finished product look very pleasing to the eye. Pastel therefore, can be a very suitable medium for medicaland scientific illustration.

Pastels can also be combined with other mediums to create very unique art. As seen in this gallery pastels have been used with pencil, they can have digital highlights, and can work well for most projects. Being hand drawn as opposed to being created ditially, they are artistic as well as retaining a realism style and being anatomically correct.
