Medical Illustrations of the Uterus
The team's illustrations of the uterus have been used in a variety of projects from patient information, sexual education websites, through to demonstrating surgery techniques. Producing these types of illustrations require sensitivity and thought and good anatomical knowledge.
This is achieved by the team choosing the correct medium to suit each project, from watercolour to digital. Below are examples of commissioned illustrations in a variety of mediums.

The Anatomy of the Uterus
The uterus or womb is part of the female reproductive system. The main functions of the uterus are receiving the embryo, sheltering the fetus during pregnancy and delivering the newborn at term. The uterus can vary in size, shape and weight depending on the status of parturition and estrogenic stimulation. And its overall shape is a pear shaped, hollow, muscular organ with thick walls; situated in the pelvic cavity between the bladder and rectum. Connected to it are the fallopian tubes, which help guide eggs from your ovaries into the uterus, whilst the cavity of the uterus meest the vagina. The small opening that connects the uterus to your vagina is called the cervix. The cervix itself is generally 2’Äì3 cm long.
