Medical Illustrations in Watercolour

Watercolour can be used to illustrate any subject, here it is used to illustrate human anatomy and all matters of a scientific nature. Created with a fine brush the artworks are anatomically precise.

The purpose ultimately is to create clear attractive visuals, that improves the effectiveness of communication by providing an image that informs, interests and engages the viewer, whether this is aimed at patient care, health or a wider audience.

Because we understand our subject well and what we are trying to convey, Joanna and her team are asked to create watercolour paintings of many subjects resulting in original, fresh looking pieces of art. By being able to offer a choice of watercolour, art and illustrations can suit a huge range of projects and have been used for books, magazines, books and journal covers, websites, leaflets and posters to name a few.

Often, because of the softness and appeal of watercolour Illustration, it is used directly within patient information material, as they can describe gruesome detail, without the shock factor. Surgery illustration explaining how a cancerous lump is removed from the breast for example. Commissioning watercolour illustrations of human anatomy to accompany medical text, can also be used to create a scene, a mood, a style, all with the aim of passing on medical facts in an informative, attractive yet straight forward manner.

Why use the Medium of Watercolour for Medical Illustrations

Watercolour is a traditional medium for medical illustrations that Joanna can use to great effect, and can be used to create very detailed colourful medical illustrations using a fine brush, to transculent or monotone washes, to give a totally different feel and style, which is the versatility of watercolour. Using a range of depth and colour to achieve a realistic effect, the finished medical illustration has a life like luminescent quality all of its own. As an experienced artist Joanna can combine watercolours with digital media, therefore, its versatility can be extended further still and artwork can be incorporated into any format for the final illustrative piece.
