Anatomical Charts / Posters Featuring a Woman of Color
The Brief for the Creation of the Anatomy Charts
Medical-artist.com have been creating anatomy charts for clients for many years. We decided that this time round we would create some of our own and sell via our other web site called uAnatomy.com. The goal to create a set of anatomical posters / charts to sell to the general public. Our goal to fill the gap with culturally specific medical illustrations to promote inclusiveness and cultural competency amongst health professionals and empower women of colour.
Our first aim has been to create a number of high end anatomical posters in a range of sizes that could be displayed on the walls of doctor’s surgeries, hospital wards, osteopath and chiropractor centres, gyms and medical centres, that would benefit patients, general public and health professionals by being able to view useful anatomy in the relevant environments.
To start, we carried out market research to find out what anatomy charts were the most popular and then look to improve and supply within those categories. It was also our purpose to supply charts not already created and to fill the market gaps with charts that customers would want and find useful for their business. Each chart takes about 3 months to complete so this is a long term and ongoing project. One key aspect throughout has been that we produce work for varying ethnic cultures as opposed to featuring ourselves as white people, and so since 2018 we have slowly been building our illustration library that features people with black and brown skin.
