Overview
Back in 2010 it seemed like everyone was talking about the app! Even the Apprentice on UK BBC TV had an episode around the creation of an app.
From the beginning, we have been fortunate to work with innovative companies looking at ways at improving patient care using new technologies. One of these companies was a company called DrawMD. Pioneered by two doctors in the US Todd Morgan, M.D Associate Professor and Alexander Kutikov, MD, FACS, together formed the drawMD company in order to develop an app for the iPad to be a medical tool for use by clinicians.
The purpose of the drawMD app was to display medical information in an interactive and visual way to help increase doctor patient engagement. The drawMD app based itself on the use of medical illustrations with the ability for doctors to personalise patient information, draw on the anatomy, explain procedures with arrows and text, to allow doctors to show patients their own individual treatment information.
Using the app on an iPad allowed the clinician to have the iPad with them at all times when meeting with patients, to set up a patient files and record patient information in a very visual way, even emailing the annotated illustrations directly to the patient or another doctor.
We were commissioned by drawMD over a three year period producing anatomical medical illustrations for a range of their apps, Joanna was a featured medical artist and we enjoyed a long and collaborative relationship.
