Medical Illustrations of The Human Brain

We were delighted to be commissioned by Quarto to create medical illustrations of the human brain.  Commissioned by our long term client Quarto Publishing, “The Human Brain Student’s Self-test Coloring Book” contains more than 350 line drawings of the human brain and nervous system, examining its structures and how they function.

Filled with illustrations that allow the reader to colour-in and learn anatomy, along with succinct text the book clearly explains the anatomy and physiology of each area that is illustrated, creating a concise, interactive reference to the fascinating field of human neuroscience.

Labels are left blank, allowing users to test their knowledge of the names of the parts, processes and systems that are illustrated, with answers given at the bottom of each page. These are a very popular way to learn anatomy and we have now illustrated three of these titles for Quarto Publishing who are based in Brighton, UK.

Book Publishing – The Brief

Medical-Artist.com were tasked with completing the illustrations for this title The Human Brain Student’s Self-test Coloring Book as well as its accompanying Physiology Student’s Self-test Coloring Book. Both were produced at the same time and it involved being commissioned to complete over 352 unique line work illustrations to be provided within budget and timeframe.

The briefs were supplied by a number of author contributors and channeled to us through a single editor. The briefs were made up of written text and screen grabs of potential illustrations and also hand drawn sketches. We were to take all of the information and from it complete as unique illustrations. Our medium of choice was Adobe Illustrator so we could produce the illustrations as line work to allow for the white space which is important as the illustrations are to be ‘coloured in’.
